I'd like this. I assume there's some "flag" denoting our quarters, portrait, and available starter fits. Having a primarily "cosmetic" purchase option in the LP store would work. It'd be great if it just straight out "gave" you the starter fits for that race, but I'd also be fine with swapping out your current set with the race you're re-aligning to.

Sometimes you just need to keep bumping it regularly. People get caught up in the "whatever" crisis of the moment, and those kinds of posts/problems are bigger issues. Something like this has a more passive impact on things in the background, and I think it's not at the top of devs' lists of things to do either.

That's true. Getting a faction to 10 in EVE is kinda ridiculous as well. It's possible that a lower threshold for the "option" to alter citizenship might make it more useful. I think anything over "5" in EVE is actually "Excellent" standing.

Kristoff Atruin wrote:The problem is your quarters correspond to the racial type of the space station you're sitting in. ie: I can dock in a station and see mercs on the guest list, so it wouldn't make sense for your quarters to change from Minmatar to Caldari if you're still sitting in a Minmatar constructed station. At some point we'll be able to move around the Eve universe, so if you want a different type of quarters then you'll just move to a station that was built by that faction.
What could make sense though is a visual upgrade to your quarters in stations belonging to that faction. Things like medals and banners hanging around that were awarded to recognize your heroism etc. They'd need to hack in some kind of temporary mechanism for moving you to a station belonging to another faction if they do this before we get the ability to move freely around.
On a related note, I think the starmap should have some kind of functionality for zooming in further on a planet and seeing the stations nearby. Many Dust players have no idea that they're actually sitting in one, despite the fact that the station name is displayed on their screen when they're in the MQ. Being able to actually see the thing would help to create some sense of consistency and build up the feeling of integration with New Eden.
Code-wise, I doubt it would be a terribly large issue to 'move" a Dust merc to one of a different faction's stations.
Mind you, I still kind of like the idea of an option for pre-uprising mercs to change their racial background (perhaps for an AUR fee), since race didn't really matter before then.
Citizenship in that frame could have different benefits, like awards, cosmetic differences in your quarters, etc. I think sometimes they don't spend much time showing the "space" elements in Dust because it highlights the fact that you have little ability to interact with any of those elements (similar to the relatively minor impact any features of the planets we fight on has on the actual field of battle). Many mercs probably already feel the scope or use of their quarters is somewhat limited, but they may be unaware that there really isn't more to "quarters" in EVE either.

There was a post by Nova Knife... or one of the CPM about support for an AUR-funded swap of existing BPOs for an alternate race. It's not quite the same thing as citizenship, but it's somewhat related as I think some people see a citizenship change as a means of changing their starter fits (BPO options). Whether or not a citizenship change would also be AUR funded (or AUR + LP).. hmm. I guess CCP might feel more motivated if there's profit in it?
I think racial quarters specifically shouldn't be a faction/citizenship thing, but rather we'd ideally be able to choose where we want to live as you sort of can in EVE. Also, we don't have negative standings in Dust that I've noticed, so that's another element that's unexplored I guess.
